Now let’s get more detailed
Tags Counter
By knowing how many tags you’ve used, you can get a sense of how your content is distributed across different topics. If you have a large number of tags (say, over 1000-2000), it could potentially impact your website’s performance on typical web hosting. By keeping an eye on the total number of tags, you can manage your tags to ensure optimal website performance. Tags are an important aspect of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). Knowing how many tags you’re using can help inform your SEO strategies.
Number of Items
This setting controls the number of tags that are displayed in the widget. You can increase or decrease this number according to your preference. If you set it to 10, only the 10 most relevant tags will be displayed. If you set it to 100, a much larger number of tags will be shown. Remember, displaying a large number of tags might make your page look cluttered, so choose a number that suits your website’s design and your audience’s needs.
Changing this setting will clear the transient cache, so the new number of tags will be used the next time the tag cloud is generated.
Item’s CSS
This is where you can add your own CSS to style the tags. For example, you could change the colour, font size, or add a border around each tag. This gives you a lot of flexibility to make the tag cloud match your site’s theme. The CSS you enter here will be applied to each tag in the cloud.
Open Item’s Link in New Tab
This setting determines where the linked page opens when a user clicks on a tag. If you choose “the same tab/window”, the linked page will open in the same tab or window as your site. If you choose “new tab/window”, the linked page will open in a new tab or window. This can be useful if you want your users to keep your site open while they explore the linked pages.
Item’s Link on Hover Text
This is the text that appears when a user hovers over a tag. It’s another way to provide information to your users. You could use it to give more details about the kind of content they can expect if they click on the tag.
Text for Aria-Label
This is the text for the aria-label attribute of the tag links. This attribute is used by screen readers to provide better accessibility for visually impaired users. The text you enter here should describe the purpose of the link.
Excluded Items
If there are specific tags you don’t want to appear in the tag cloud, you can list them here, separated by commas. This is useful if you have some tags that are not relevant to the majority of your users, or if you want to keep the focus on certain topics.
Changing this setting will clear the transient cache, so the new list of excluded tags will be used the next time the tag cloud is generated.
Disable Transients Cache
This option allows you to control the use of caching for performance. If you choose ‘Yes’, caching will be disabled. This means that the tag cloud will be generated from scratch each time your page loads, which could slow down your site if you have a lot of tags. If you choose ‘No’, caching will be enabled. This means that the tag cloud will be stored in a cache and reused for each page load, which can significantly speed up your site.
Changing this setting will clear the transient cache immediately.
